Emily Hill from Glenbrook has been selected as Penrith’s youth representative for this year’s YMCA NSW Youth Parliament.

Emily, aged 18, is one of the 110 young people given the chance to voice their opinions on issues that are important to them and their local community. There are 10 committees representing the most important issues facing the State and Emily will be investigating health and medical research. Congratulations Emily.

Well done to Natalie Wildig from Emu Plains for her HSC achievement of an ATAR of 91.65 and to Luke Johnson from Glenbrook with 90.7. Natalie and Luke are both students at Penrith Anglican College. Natalie has had her HSC Textiles and Design major project selected for the touring exhibition Texstyles. Her work was an exquisite hand dyed, hand painted and embroidered dress inspired by the Lord of the Rings movie.

Rebekah Harris, former Blaxland High School Captain has her work displayed in the Art Gallery of NSW as part of the ArtExpress exhibition, which features work from HSC students. Her painting was inspired by a family trip to Europe, and is an impressionistic painting, showing the more casual atmosphere of Paris.

Happiness by helping

Children at Emu Heights Public School were recently challenged to put their school motto “Happiness by Helping” into action by doing jobs at home to raise money for the victims of Queensland’s devastating floods.
Gardens were weeded, bathrooms cleaned, dishes washed, groceries packed away, younger brothers and sisters looked after and countless other jobs completed as the children relished the opportunity to help. An interesting trend was the number of children who earned their money giving their parents foot and neck massages!
Together with funds from a school mufti day the children raised a total of $1526.50 Equally successful projects in recent years to support earthquake ravaged Haiti and communities affected by the Victorian Bushfires, help children understand their school motto is something they can truly live out.
